Paris, France. With a 56-44 win over Denmark Thursday April 21st at the 2016 IWRF Rio Qualification Tournament, USA Wheelchair Rugby has captured one of the two remaining slots for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. Today’s other semi final winner, France will join the U.S. in September as both teams join a very strong international field.
The competition in Paris is not over yet. The gold medal match will see the Americans facing France at 1 p.m. EDT. The U.S. is looking to extend their perfect tournament finish to 7-0.

Wheelchair Rugby was invented in Canada in 1977. Originally known as “murderball” because of its intense physical nature, the sport’s name was changed to wheelchair rugby. By 1993 wheelchair rugby was officially recognized as a sport for athletes with disability and the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation was founded.
