Today we welcome 12 athletes to Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama for a USA Wheelchair Rugby development camp. In an effort to expand the talent pool and enhance the athlete pipeline, USAWR will host a four day camp and has hopes to hold another in the summer of 2017. “As we are entering into the next Paralympic Quadrennial we must capitalize on this time as we look towards Tokyo 2020”, says Mandy Goff, USAWR High Performance Manager. While this isn’t a development team, this camp will afford them high level training time and other high performance opportunities in an effort to advance their potential. USAWR will hold the 2017 National Team Selection Camp in January and many of these athletes could earn an invitation if they take advantage of time while in camp. While the focus for our current National Team athletes has shifted towards club season, the program continues to develop strategies for continued success at the Paralympic level.
