Lima, Peru. Game 3 of the Parapan American Games Lima 2019 was the second of a double header for the U.S. Saturday. In front of a crowd full of local fans and Team USA teammates, the U.S. did not disappoint, coming away with a 55-35 victory over 9th ranked Brazil.
A quick score by Chuck Aoki just eight seconds into the match dictated the tone for the game. Coupled with a dominant defensive effort that forced 12 turnovers in the first half alone, the U.S. continued to be unmatched on both ends of the court. As the second half played out much like the first, top scorers for game 3 were Chuck Aoki with 19, and Josh Wheeler with 12.
Today’s win over Brazil came on the heels of a 48-7 victory over Argentina earlier in the day. Sunday features another double header including the highly anticipated first look at Canada for the U.S. in these Games at 3 p.m. CDT.
Sunday is the last day of pool play for wheelchair rugby, setting the stage for Monday’s semi finals and Tuesday’s gold and bronze medal games. At stake in Lima is a berth in the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 for the top finisher. For complete scores and highlights visit usawr.org. Want to catch great live action from Lima?
