U.S. finish pool play 5-0

Lima, Peru. Canada, USA never disappoints and Game 5 of the Parapan American Games Lima 2019 was no exception. Back and forth for nearly the entire game, the U.S. would come out on top 54-51.

The aggressive fast-paced match was highlighted by technical game management. Key turnovers forced by the U.S. at both the goal line and in the back court allowed the Americans to capitalize on the opportunity to score and create a small point differential. Communication was also at the heart of this victory for the U.S. “Communication is key against a team like Canada, said Chuck Aoki. They are so disciplined and it is critical to stay in touch with each other. The crowd here has been great, so it is also important to work to be loud on the court so we don’t have gaps in our play.”

Top scorers for today’s match against Canada were Chuck Aoki with 23 and Josh Wheeler with 20.

In the morning session the U.S. defeated Colombia 53-34.

As pool play concludes, it sets up tomorrow’s semi final action with the
U.S. playing in the 5 p.m semifinal game. All this leads to Tuesday’s medal
rounds. At stake is a spot for the top finisher at the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, which kick off one year from today.
