Sao Paulo, BRAZIL USA vs. Brazil brought out an enthusiastic crowd at the Brazilian Paralympic Center as they cheered on team Brazil for day two of the 2025 WWR Americas Championship. Despite the local fan support, the U.S. were able to secure their second win of the tournament with a final score of 65-48. Top scorers for the U.S. were Chuck Aoki with 20 and Zion Redington with 19.
Opening with a quick try for Brazil out of the tip off, the game was a high speed back and forth for much of the first. A turnover forced by number 55 Mason Symons on the inbound by Brazil at just past the half way mark of the period led to a quick score for the U.S.; another turnover, this time forced by U.S. number 5 co-captain Chuck Aoki disrupted the pace of play for Brazil allowing the Americans to etch a lead 17-13 lead to finish the first.
With the first three trys of the second, the Americans began to dominate the court but Brazil’s persistent speed and physicality kept the score somewhat within reach for the host city. As the second came to a close the U.S. had extended their lead up 34-28 at the half.
The U.S. roared out again in the third this time forcing numerous turnovers resulting in their biggest lead of the match thus far up 50-35 at the end of three periods of play. The fourth played out much the same allowing the U.S. to run multiple lines and score with consistency for the 65-48 final.
The U.S. will now play Peru at 12 noon local time on Sunday, July 13th. Follow USAWR for all of the scores and highlights.
