Lima, Peru. Team USA opened the 2019 Parapan American Games wheelchair rugby competition with a 60-16 win over Chile.
The U.S. dominated all four periods with a balanced offensive and defensive effort. Joe Delagrave and Josh Wheeler led the U.S. in scoring with 14 a piece, Eric Newby had 13 and Chuck Aoki contributed 12 in the Lima opener.
Game one was a great experience for Ray Hennagir in his Parapan American Games debut. “The crowd was great and really loud, said Hennagir. In my first year with the program, I know I have a lot to learn and I am really trying to soak all of the knowledge and experiences I can.”
Next up for the Americans is tomorrow’s 8 a.m. match up against Argentina. The U.S. will back on the court later in the day at 3 p.m. facing Brazil, currently ranked 9th by the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation.
