USA Wheelchair Rugby Announces 2019 Team

January 6, 2019  USA Wheelchair Rugby is pleased to announce the 16 athletes that have been named to the 2019 USAWR Training Squad. The sixteen, selected from 37 who attended the four day tryout camp, will have a busy 2019 with six camps and three international competitions. “This team will have a lot of opportunity coming up in 2019,” said Head Coach James Gumbert. This will set the table for how we spend the next 18-19 months as we look toward Tokyo.”

After a training camp in April, the team will next come together for the Four Nations Invitational May 18-26 at the Lakeshore Foundation U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site, featuring Australia, Great Britain, Japan and the United States. Lima, Peru is set to host the 2019 Parapan American Games August 18-September 2, 2019, the last chance for the U.S. to automatically qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.  2019 will round out with the World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge in Tokyo October 16-26 and the tryout camp for the 2020 squad December 11-15th at Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, AL.
