USAWR Selects Team for the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge

USA Wheelchair Rugby on September 23, 2015

After a five day training camp in Phoenix at the Virginia G. Piper Sports & Fitness Center for People with Disabilities, 12 athletes have been named to the BT WWRC team.  The competition will take place in London at the Copper Box in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park next month.  “We have been given a great opportunity to participate in a monumental event, set to take place during the Rugby World Cup.  This event will draw rugby fans from across the world who may never have seen our sport before, so we are thoroughly excited to be a part of it,” said head coach James Gumbert.  While this tournament will not help any teams qualify for Rio 2016, it is a sanctioned event and the results will affect world rankings.  USA, currently ranked number three, will open the tournament with a match against Canada, number two, on 12 October at 5:30pm local time.  Other teams in the USA pool include South Africa and New Zealand and the second pool will feature the home country Great Britain, Australia, Japan, and France.  Pool play will run through 14 October with crossovers and finals wrapping up on the 15th and 16th.  Follow results and catch live action by visiting http://www.wwrc15.com/
